Energy Bites

So I found this AWESOME recipe from Running Warehouse, that I had to share.

We don’t always have a lot of time to fuel up pre-run, so we like to keep some convenient (and tasty) snacks on hand to make sure we have the stamina to go the distance when we hit the roads or trails. These peanut butter energy bites are just the ticket!

What you’ll need:

2 small, ripe bananas (for potassium to help prevent muscle cramping)
2 cups rolled oats (for whole grain carbs)
½ cup peanut butter (sub in a different nut butter if you’d prefer)
¼ cup plain yogurt (for a little extra calcium)
2 tbsp. honey (for quick energy)
cinnamon to taste (for added deliciousness)
Medium-sized mixing bowl
Measuring cup
Measuring spoons
Cookie Sheet
Waxed paper or parchment paper
Stir it up!

Mash up the banana in a medium-sized mixing bowl
Add the remaining ingredients and stir with fork until completely mixed
Use a tablespoon to spoon mixture onto a parchment paper (or waxed paper) covered cookie sheet
Place cookie sheet in freezer and freeze for three hours
Enjoy! Store these energy bites in the freezer in a sealed container so they’re ready when you need some pre-run fuel, or just a healthy snack.

Germaphobe party of one

So with the cooler weather on it’s way, we have to start taking care of ourselves a little more. There isn’t an invitation for Mr Flu or Mr Cold!

Durning the colder months (which really isn’t any different then other times!) I turn into a germaphobe. Ha! Now with the training, it’s 100% worse.

Keep your distance! If someone has cold or flu, give him or her space! Viruses spread through airborne transmission or personal contact.
Wash your hands! Viruses can survive on doorknobs, keyboards, and other objects. If you touch them and touch your nose or mouth then you’ve got it. Wash your hands after being in a public place.
Avoid sharing mugs, cups, or utensils. Use your dishwasher or hot water to clean. Your friend may not look sick today, but.
Avoid second-hand smoke. If you smoke, try to quit!
Eat well-balanced, healthy diet, drink plenty of water, get a good night’s sleep!

This Sunday I have myself an eight mile run. Pretty excited about since the weather should be in the 50s/60s! I’ll let you know how it goes. Until then…
